Frequently asked questions

Getting started

What is Savings Unlocked?

Savings Unlocked is a free search engine for the cash back offers already sitting on the credit cards you own. Issuers like Amex, Chase and Bank of America each run their own offer portal, and almost nobody checks all of them before shopping. We put every offer we can find in one place so you can look up a store once and see what your own cards will pay you back.

Is it free?

Yes. Searching offers, creating an account, adding your cards and saving offers are all free. We never ask for a payment method.

Do I have to link my bank account or give you my card numbers?

No. There are no bank logins and no account linking. You tell us which card products you carry — for example 'Amex Platinum' — and that is the whole of it. We never see your card numbers, your balances or your transactions, and we cannot activate an offer on your behalf. Activation always happens on your issuer's own site, while you are signed in to it.

Which banks and issuers do you cover?

We currently carry offers from American Express, Bank of America, Chase, Citi, PayPal, US Bank, Wells Fargo. Coverage grows over time, and you can browse any issuer's offers from the Browse by Card section of the menu.

Do I need an account to use Savings Unlocked?

No. Search, merchant pages and the featured offers all work signed out. An account adds the personal surfaces: your wallet, your saved offers and the brands you follow.

Cash back and activation

How do I actually get the cash back?

Four steps. Find the offer here, click through to activate it in your issuer's offer portal, pay with that same card at the merchant, and your issuer credits the cash back to your account after the purchase settles. The credit comes from your bank, not from us.

Do I have to activate an offer before I buy?

Almost always, yes. Card-linked offers have to be added to your card before the purchase, and a purchase made before activation will not earn the cash back retroactively. Activate first, then shop.

How long does the cash back take to show up?

That is entirely up to your issuer. Most post the statement credit within a few days to a few billing cycles after the transaction settles. If a credit never arrives, your card issuer's customer service is the only party who can look it up.

I activated an offer, but the credit never arrived. Can you fix it?

We are not able to — the offer, the activation and the credit all live with your card issuer, and we have no access to your account. Contact your issuer directly and reference the offer and the transaction. We would still like to hear about it, because a pattern of failures usually means an offer's terms are being reported wrong on our side.

Tell us what happened →
Why doesn't my bank show me an offer I found here?

Card-linked offers are targeted: issuers show different offers to different cardholders, and an offer that exists on the network may simply not be assigned to you. Our catalog is a broad snapshot of what is out there rather than a view of your specific account, so your issuer's portal is always the final word on whether an offer is yours.

Are the terms and expiration dates exact?

Treat them as a guide. We read spend requirements, caps and expiration dates from the offer as it was published, and issuers change or pull offers without notice. Always read the terms in your issuer's portal before you rely on an offer.

Your cards and your wallet

What does adding my cards do?

Your wallet is what makes results personal. Once we know which cards you hold, search leads with the offers those cards actually carry and the My Cards toggle filters everything else out. Without a wallet you see the whole catalog, including offers you cannot use.

Set up my wallet →
What's the difference between 'on your cards' and 'possible' offers?

An offer is on your cards when we can map it to a specific card product you told us you hold. It is possible when we know it comes from a bank you carry but cannot tell which of that bank's cards it belongs to — issuers publish card details unevenly, and PayPal publishes none at all. We show the two as separate groups rather than guessing, so a possible offer is worth a look but is not a promise.

I can't find my card in the picker.

Our card catalog is built from the card art issuers publish alongside their offers, so a newly launched or rarely pictured card can be missing. Add the bank on its own in the meantime — you will still see that issuer's offers, grouped as possible matches — and let us know which card is missing so we can add it.

Report a missing card →
What are My Offers and My Follows?

Saving an offer keeps it on your My Offers page so you can come back to it before it expires, including after it expires so you can clear it out. Following a brand adds it to My Follows, where its new offers show up as they land.

Offers and data

How often are offers updated?

The catalog refreshes every couple of days. New offers are added, and offers that have expired or been pulled by the issuer drop out of search and off the merchant pages.

A merchant or offer looks wrong. What should I do?

Tell us. Wrong brand names, a merchant filed under the wrong category, a cash back percentage that does not match the issuer's own wording — all of it is worth reporting, and merchant data corrections are quick for us to make.

Report a problem →
Why can't I find a store I shop at?

Either no issuer is currently running an offer for that brand, or the offer is a local one. We only publish offers that are available nationally, so a deal limited to a handful of locations is deliberately left out rather than shown to people who cannot use it.

Your account

How do I change my email or password?

Both live in your account settings, along with your display name.

Open account settings →
How do I delete my account?

Account settings has a delete option that removes your profile along with your wallet, saved offers and follows. If you would rather we did it for you, email us and we will take care of it.

How do I stop receiving emails?

Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing does not close your account or touch your saved offers.

Still need a hand?

Send us the details and we'll get back to you. Reports of missing cards and wrong offer terms genuinely do get fixed — they're the fastest way to make the catalog better for everyone.
